Screaming Frenzy 2017 Sauvignon Blanc ,

Vineyard – Bob’s Roadside Fruit Stand

Region – North Oliver, Okanagan

Thoughts – We wanted to create a Sauvignon Blanc that was a polite cat’s piss off to Oyster Bay (or at the very least, Monkey Bay). We were fortunate to find a cooler vineyard site that’s way more suitable for proper Savvy, errr, Sauvignon Blanc, than most places in the valley (right at the first blocks of vines in Oliver along highway 97). It also happened to be farmed by a great guy (Bob).

Taste – As noted above, this is a fruit stand; no veggies here. So if you’re looking for asparagus, peas, herbs, grass, kohlrabi or whatever, this is not the wine for you. Fresh
citrus, stone fruit and honeydew melons are for sale at this stand, along with a free side of chalky minerality with every purchase.

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A fresh, vivacious Sauvignon Blanc by The Hatch. This Screaming Frenzy certainly lives up to its name with spirited notes of flinty passionfruit, pink grapefruit, and perfumed white peonies. Typical green notes of asparagus or grassy cat’s pee aren’t found here – instead there’s a keen, distinct element of fresh chives and basil leaves peeking out. Flavours impart luscious Granny Smith apples, flinty passionfruit and creamy guava notes at the back with a dynamic pomelo citrus medium finish. Acidity is refined and perfectly proportioned with a heavier body and a decadent oily mouthfeel is offered leaving it fuller and adding more weight. This will accompany a variety of foods or on its own. Try a pairing with a marinated seafood salad or herbed chicken. This would also be a fine match for veggie burgers. 90 points – tasted September 2018 @HatchWines
